Information about running for office
To all members,
October is quickly approaching. It is the time for the annual workshop, business meeting and elections for the Arizona State Assembly of Surgical Technologists (AZSA).
We encourage active members to join in the workshop, and to consider running for a position within the Assembly. This year, we are electing a Secretary and three members of the Board of Directors.
Please be certain to have your AST membership card with you. It will be required for voting.
Should you desire to run for election, the following duties and parameters MUST be met:
Secretary: (two year term)
Duties:
1. The secretary shall maintain a record of the proceedings of the Board of Directors, all state meetings and the annual meeting.
2. He/she shall forward to the President, for distribution to the appropriate committees, all pertinent materials in abstract of excerpted form, whichever is better suited to the situation.
3. At all meetings, he/she will have a copy of the state bylaws, state policy and a copy of Robert’s Rules of Order available for reference.
4. He/she shall perform other duties pertaining to his/her office office or as delegated to him/her by the President or the Board of Directors.
5. Additional duties are relative to the position, and these can be furnished to you, if interested. Contact me, through the web link (vice-president@azsa-ast.org) and an e-mail with attachment will be forwarded to you.
Board of Director (two year term)
Duties:
1. Be familiar with the State Assembly bylaws, and other materials as directed by the AST
2. Formulate policies and procedures for the STATE Assembly manual
3. Foster the growth and development of the Assembly
4. Fulfill other duties as specified in the bylaws.
5. Additional duties are relative to the position, and these can be furnished to you, if interested. Contact me, through the web link (vice-president@azsa-ast.org) and an e-mail with attachment will be forwarded to you.
Requirements for positions:
1. A candidate shall have been an active member of AST for one full year immediately preceding nomination, be a Certified Surgical Technologist and, if elected, shall maintain that active status.
2. Submit the required “curriculum vitae” and “consent to serve.” These documents must be submitted to the Arizona State Assembly at least 30 days prior to the election. Both of these forms are available from the AST web site (www.ast.org ). Click on “State Assemblies” then the ‘”Willingness to Serve” link. In addition, these can also be e-mailed to you by contacting me at (vicepresident@azsa-ast.org).
Completed forms MUST be submitted to the Arizona State Assembly, P.O. Box 26681, Tucson, AZ 85726,with receipt on or prior to the deadline date.
3. You MUST be approved by the Credentials Committee of the AZSA regarding your eligibility.
4. You may also run from a “floor nomination” on the day of the workshop. In that case, Your intent to do so must be voiced at the opening segment of the business meeting to allow time for verification of your eligibility. Also, you MUST sign a consent form, prior to your name being placed on the ballot.
